How does acupuncture work ?

Acupuncture works by utilizing a number of different mechanisms. By needling specific acupuncture points on the body, the central nervous system is stimulated. This in turn, releases pain relieving and anti- inflammatory substances into body which encourages a return to homeostasis. Local acupuncture points will also increase blood flow to injured areas resulting in further pain relief. While working with the central nervous system, the response to chronic pain can be altered.  Acupuncture treatments have influence over the nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine and immune systems of the body.

What can Acupuncture treat?

Over 200 different disorders are recognized by the World Health Organization as treatable by acupuncture. Some of these include, musculoskeletal, neurological, gynaecological, fertility, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive system, urogenital, skin, eye, psychological disorders and so much more!

Facial Acupuncture

How it works?

When acupuncture needles are inserted, blood flows to the area which stimulates cell re-growth, collagen and elastin production. Motor points to release and lift facial muscles are also chosen depending on each patients tension carrying patterns. Accumulation of tension in facial, jaw, scalp and neck muscles are some of the factors that lead to sagging, wrinkles and dullness. Beyond the local points of the face, each treatment includes body points to regulate hormones, digestion, inflammation and stress which can all contribute to dermatological conditions. Facial acupuncture can be used in conjunction with and to help prolong the anti-aging effects of botox, filler and some cosmetic surgeries.

Facial acupuncture can be used to:

  • Decrease fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improve complexion and elasticity
  • Balance hormones to improve conditions like melasma, rosacea, acne
  • Reduce local inflammation in the face
  • Balance oily and dry skin
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Create symmetry of the face, lift & re-set muscles
  • Improve neuromuscular conditions such as trigeminal neuralgia, MS, TMJ, bell’s palsy and paralysis
